We need submissions for
our All-Pets-Are-Easter Bunnies
Photo Spread.
Send me your
name, where you live, an Easter-related
photo of
your pet & info about
him or her.
I first mentioned this last month, but here's
a resource that may be helpful to
you or someone you know. I've put together
a page for people having
problems keeping their pets during today's
rough economy. It's got resources for low
cost or free vet care,
shots, food, and more. I call it Aid for Pets and my main hope is
that it
will help
keep a few good people and their pets
together.
Speaking of helping, a woman in Ocala
has been making coats for the dogs of
homeless people or seniors living on fixed
incomes. If you can help sew the coats, or
provide material for the coats, or donate
money so material can be purchased, or
just pass the word, please contact
Yvonne at yjjohnson@cox.net for more info.
(Psst...I've talked with this kind lady
personally and
she's the real deal.)
On a related note, according to the
Chattanooga Pulse, fish are the most
popular pets in America, with an estimated
158,600,000 fish being kept in aquariums
across the land. I wonder then, how many
fish food flakes people are buying?
Congrats to Springhill for the January 31
grand
opening of their first dog park.
I found a great resource with information
about
drugs for animals at
Veterinary Information From
Drugs.com.
A friend of mine referred me to a site
some of you might find helpful. Canine Liver Disease
Foundation, has tons of info
about the disease, symptoms, treatments,
and prevention.
We've just learned of Heartland Cat Rescue, a non profit
group based in Sebring.
At least two NFL teams have expressed
interest in acquiring Michael Vick once
he's released from federal prison where
he's serving time for dog fighting. If you
don't think he
should be allowed to play/earn in the NFL
again,
here's a petition you
might
want to sign. Unsure? Learn more about it
all
here. (Caution: graphic
photos.)
Leon County
Humane Society announces its 2nd
annual "Friends Fur Life." This is a
community-wide pet food and supply drive
for senior citizens and their companion
animals in need. Go to their web site to
learn more and perhaps, learn how to
organize such an
event for your town.
Panama City Beach is the latest city in
Florida
to woof yes to doggie dining. Check out
our
list
of pet-friendly towns and some eateries here and let us know if you
know of more.
Our little
Shortcake went on to Rainbow Bridge this
past Thursday. She was a
doxie/chihuahua mix who found
us in 2000. I'm still tender about it all, but
will
prepare a memorial
for her and share it with you next month.
I'll leave you with what a good friend of
mine
asked when she learned about Shortcake,
"Is there anything better than loving a
dog? Yeah, of course there is: the way
they love you back."
That's it for now. Thanks for continuing
to "tail along" with FloridaPets.net. We
love
hearing from our readers, so please feel
free to send comments and
suggestions.
