"They're part of the family, so take them along!"
May, 2007 Vol. 5 No. 5

|
Greetings, everyone!
Do you have trouble viewing emails with
images? Then Fred our basset boy, pictured
at left, suggests
you read the NewsPetter
here.
I recently posted this on our Message
Forum, but in case you missed it there has
been a
nationwide class action
lawsuit filed
against pet food companies and certain
retailers. It's about more than the recent
recalls and I really think every pet guardian
needs to read and consider it.
We normally think "hurricane" when
preparing for disasters in Florida but
so far this year, wildfires have been the big
problem. Of course people with pets need to
have a plan, no matter the emergency. Our
2007 Pet-Friendly Hurricane Shelter
Guide is designed to help with that plan. We'll
be posting it on
FloridaPets.net Friday, June 1,
the official start date of hurricane season, so
be sure to check it out!
As always, readers, we want you to know
how much
we appreciate you for "tailing along" with
FloridaPets.net and the NewsPetter. We
welcome your comments and suggestions.

Pet-Friendly Vacation Spot
1872 John Denham House - Monticello
Our choice for this month's pet-friendly
vacation location is the 1872 John Denham
House, voted one of "Florida's Fabulous B &
B's"
in Florida Monthly Magazine and
once rated in USA Today as one of
"Ten Places To Sleep with a Ghost."
Indeed, in a 135-year-old early Victorian
mansion with
thirteen rooms, you're bound to run into a
spirit or two.
Atmosphere and amenities abound here,
with eight fireplaces,
period antiques, old fashioned outdoor swings
and claw foot tubs in the two honeymoon
suites, There's even a cupola, that roundish
structure on top of the
house, picture above, from where you can
capture a nice view of Monticello.
Owner Pat Inmon says the 1872 John
Denham house is a family
place where pets and
children are welcome. She said there's a pet
fee only for someone bringing multiple pets. A
one-acre play area will keep both canine and
human playful. A bonus for this B&B is its
location in
Jefferson County which has lots to
offer the
bedraggled Florida resident or visitor.

Tips and Tails
Special announcements or news from readers
1. Polk County's government access
cable TV channel
PGTV not only broadcasts
county government meetings and
announcements, but also a show called "Polk
Tails" which features local adoptable pets at
health tips and new products and services for
pets. We're told FloridaPets.net will be
featured sometime this summer.
2. Have you heard? Florida
lawmakers recently passed a bill with a 38-1
vote that would
give pet guardians the option of being buried
with the cremated remains of their pets.
Governor Crist is expected
to sign it into law. Currently, a licensed
cemetery can house only human remains.
Lawmakers say the bill negates health concern
issues since it only allows pet remains
that
have been
cremated and placed into a separate case to
lie next to
the humans.
Time for the
repetitive,
subliminal message from
FloridaPets.net:
"Your pet's poop is your
responsibility,
always,
everywhere you go. Good
human."
