"They're part of the family,
so take them along!"
July, 2007 Vol. 5 No. 7
Our boy, Fred
Greetings, everyone!

Do you have trouble viewing emails with images? Then Dancer, at left, cover boy for the summer issue of Chihuahua Connection Magazine and companion to Jenny Gomes of Okahumpka, suggests you read the NewsPetter here. And speaking of reading, you can read more here about Dancer.

Our new Calendar of Events is starting to fill up. If you'll recall, the host of our former calendar closed their business without warning us and our events just disappeared.

Don't forget to bookmark our 2007 Pet-Friendly Hurricane Shelter Guide. We update the info as we get it, so just refresh the page each time you view it and you'll always have the latest information to use or share with others.

Speaking of sharing, Lab Rescue of Florida needs donations like crates, bowls, toys, food, treats, collars and leashes. (for lab-sized dogs) and monetary donations to help with vet bills, spaying/neutering and heartworm and flea treatments. This state-wide, non profit organization can be reached by writing Rita at rdower@comcast.net or visiting Labrador Rescue.

As always, readers, we want you to know how much we appreciate you and we welcome your comments and suggestions.

Shortcake. Or you can call her Princess.
Shortcake of FloridaPets.net

Readers ask me all the time about our pets and so this month, I will let one of our fur kids have the spotlight.

This is Shortcake, a little bit doxie, a little bit chihuahua, a little bit rock and roll. She found us June 6, 2000, literally standing in the middle of our street with our address in her fanny pack. If the vet's estimate back then was correct, Shortcake recently turned 9-years-old.

She had heartworm when we connected, probably the reason she had been abandoned and it took two treatments and one near-death experience to get whole again. Shortcake is stubborn and won't lift a paw if she's not in the mood. (We call her Paris Shortcake behind her back.) This little brown dog can lapse into an Oscar-winning performance of whiplash and limping anytime and anywhere she doesn't get her way. Oh, and did I mention...she's very spoiled and we love her very much!

Please take a moment and sign the petition to Allow Pets in Privately Owned Dwellings. Citizens for Pets in Condos has been working tirelessly on this issue - check them out!

Trend watch. Cruise ships turned condo ships where the staterooms are owned by the residents and pets are allowed. The World, with 165 residences, is the only such ship currently sailing, although two more are in the works.

Time for the repetitive, subliminal message from FloridaPets.net:
"Your pet's poop is your responsibility, always, everywhere you go. Good human."
