Santa Paws brought our little Miss Shortcake a
new
collar for Christmas. We let her have it early because
we wanted to show you how pretty the collar looks
on our little doxie diva. We found the
collar at BarkTalk.com -
check them out because they've got all kinds of
adorable items.

We've got several new things planned for the
Web site for 2007. A partially-new design, much more
content and more photos. You can help. If you have
any photos of you and/or your companion animals
enjoying a dog park, beach, restaurant or other pet-
friendly venue in Florida, we'd love to share them
with all the readers of FloridaPets.net. Check our
Tips
and Tails section below on how to send photos to us.

Pet-Friendly Vacation
Shores Resort & Spa - Daytona Beach Shores
The Shores Resort and Spa sits on three oceanfront
acres of a barrier island that's just five miles long.
The facility recently had a multi-million dollar face lift
and
the atmosphere is that of a turn-of-the-century
beach cottage. The resort is sufficiently secluded for
the
work-weary visitors, yet close enough to the
Daytona
International Speedway and Orlando's theme park
menagerie to satisfy those who crave the "action"
part of "vacation."
The Shores Resort & Spa is pet-friendly if yours is
under 20 pounds. There is a refundable deposit and a
per night pet fee of $25.00 You can
check out the Resort's extensive list of amenities and
book your vacation right from FloridaPets.net.

What's a Pet Apartment?
It could be a retreat for cats and small dogs, a
fancy little cover for a litter box, a creative toy
stash, or just a quiet space for the little ones to take
a nap or grab a snack. Your choice and customized

Can you play Santa's Helper?
Leon County
Humane Society's refrigerator broke recently and is
beyond repair. They'd like to purchase a new, more
energy efficient one that would probably cost around
$600-900 If you would like to contribute to the
Fridge Fund, you may do at the society's link below.
If you'd like more information, you may call them at

From Our Readers - Meet the Kayaking Yorkies
Sharron Ryan of Tarpon Springs is shown here with
her two Yorkshire Terriers, Rosie and Louie, on
Rainbow River, in Dunnellon. She's been kayaking with
them since they were 4 months old and they even
have their own scuba diving gear. (Check out the
mustard and catsup-colored dive tanks!) Sharron
said this is a great place to take your pets, but she
recommends they wear life jackets, Doggles, and are
on a leash at all times.

Special Note to Our Readers
"A warm sweater and good food. A kind hand
to pat our back. A bunchy chair to rest our heads.
Soft words and romps in the sun. Oh, that's a lot!
One may be human, one may not. But both need
love, the kind that can't be bought. " - Amber,
6-year-old reader of FloridaPets.net.
We couldn't have said it better, Amber. May all of
you and your beloved
companion animals have everything you want and
need in 2007. We'll see you again soon.
Sincerely,
Patricia
