Note: Dogs are not permitted on area beaches. There seems to be low tolerance for dogs on public beaches in Brevard County, as reflected by comments we receive from readers and from editorials we read in media outlets.
Meanwhile, there are several county parks and recreation areas where leashed dogs are permitted. We have listed those below, per info gleaned from the Web site of Brevard County Parks & Recreation Department.
1. Manatee Hammock
Dogs on leashes are allowed at this 26-acre campground, which is on the shore of Indian River Lagoon.
Located at 7275 S US Highway 1 in Titusville. This is a beautiful, natural area where there are great views of the Kennedy Space Center shuttle launches. Camping patrons are permitted dogs if they are on short leashes, but dogs are prohibited around picnic-only areas. Directions: From I-95, take SR-50 Exit-215, go east for 3 miles. Turn right on US Hwy 1 and go 3.5 miles south. The campground entrance is on the east side the road.
2. Sand Point Park
Located at 101 N Washington Avenue, Titusville. This park has nearly 30 acres and is on the Indian River. Open 7:00 a.m. until dark. Offers picnic tables, shelters, benches and restrooms. Dogs must be on short leashes. Directions: From I-95 take SR-406 Exit-220 and go east 2.8 miles on Garden Street, turn left on US Hwy 1, the park entrance is on the right. From US Hwy 1 at SR-50 go north on US Hwy 1 4.1 miles just past Garden Street. Entrance is on the right.
"This is a great place from where to watch space shuttle launches where you're allowed to bring your dog on a leash only. The park is nice with picnic tables, fishing, barbeques. I view all launches from here - it's almost straight across from the NASA VAB Building."
NOTE: We can't visit every area on a regular basis, so if you have information about any dog parks or beaches, or any other animal recreation facilities, in the Titusville area, please contact FloridaPets.net.
