Atlantic Beach Dog Park

The Atlantic Beach Dog Park is the newest pet friendly place in the Jacksonville area.
The grand opening was held Saturday, January 22, at the park’s location at 268 Aquatic Drive, next to the Sunrise Community Church in Atlantic Beach. The off-leash dog park was founded after a small group of regular citizens identified a need and worked with city officials to make it a reality.
Rick Carper, Public Works Director and City Engineer for the City of Atlantic Beach, said he was impressed by the resident-led effort.
“The opening was very well attended, with at least 25 new members signing up to use the dog park,” Carper said, “and many more application packets handed out.”
Donna Bagby, president of the dog park committee, said the City of Atlantic Beach donated the site for the park, which City workers then constructed.
“There were about 100 people in attendance at the opening and many, many dogs,” Bagby said, “We received a lot of good feedback afterwards.”
Membership fees will be the main source of funds to maintain the dog park and its amenities, and to fund special projects, such as an irrigation system and periodic sod replacement. Ongoing fundraising, such as personalized brick and t-shirt sales, will also be important for the park's upkeep.
Atlantic Beach Dog Park encompasses about 1.8 acres and is located just a couple of miles from Paws Park Dog Park in Jacksonville Beach. The park basically encircles a large pond for doggies who love to swim, offers separate areas for small and large dogs, water drinking stations, poop bags, and a double gated entry. (Note to humans: there are no restrooms on location at this time.)
The Park has an annual usage fee of $50 for the first dog and $25 for each additional dog. It will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. until daylight saving time when the hours will be dawn to dusk. The park will close Thursdays from 8 a.m. to noon for maintenance. Visit Atlantic Beach Dog Park for more information and a membership application.
