Located on Penman Road South, in Jacksonville Beach, Paws Park opened May 1, 2005. The dog park is part of a multi-million dollar project that expanded the city's very popular Wingate Park.
Paws Park is a shining example of what a small, but passionate, group can accomplish. Wanting a small section of the Wingate Park expansion set aside as a safe place for people to enjoy outdoor fun with their dogs, community volunteers organized themselves into a group they called the "Beaches Dog Park Project."
Project members worked with City of Jacksonville Beach officials for nearly 4 years before being rewarded with Paws Park, the first free dog park in Duval County. It is sponsored and maintained by the City of Jacksonville Beach. Once the park opened, the group "Beaches Dog Park Project" became "Friends of Paws Park" which continues to raise funds for future dog park amenities and promote the facility to the public with fun events and a strong online presence.
Visitors to Paws Park at Wingate Park enjoy free access to a double-gated entry, separate areas for small and dog parks, benches, poop bags, trash cans, automatic watering stations, grassy areas for play, and an educational bulletin board.
Paws Park is open every day of the year, from dawn to dusk, unless temporarily closed for maintenance - watch for signs. Visit Paws Park at Wingate Park for more information about the Paws Park. Please Share...
